ANTE
Ante refers to a small bet which a player is required to make before a hand is dealt with. An ante is similar to a blind, but everyone has to contribute it before a hand starts.
ALL-IN
It is a type of bet that places all of a player’s chips into the pot.
BACKDOOR
Backdoor is a term used for Hitting your needed cards on the turn and the river to make your hand.
BAD BEAT
This refers to a situation when a player who initially had a substantial advantage over an opponent loses his hand to that opponent after the flop, turn, or river.
Blank
Blank refers to a board card that doesn’t seem to affect the standings in the hand. A turn card of two will be considered as a blank if the flop is A-J-T,.
Blind
Blind refers to a forced bet put in by one or more players before any cards are dealt. blinds are typically put in by players immediately to the left of the button.
Bluff
This refers to a bet or raises holding a hand you believe to be weaker than that of your opponent, to get them to fold their stronger hand.
BURN
The burn is discarding the top card before each betting round. Wherein there is a distinguishing mark on the top card, the burn card keeps the next card to be dealt concealed before it comes out. It is done to ensure that no unfair information is being intentionally or unintentionally conveyed.
BUTTON
It refers to the position of the dealer. The button is denoted by placing a plastic disk in front of the dealer in live poker. Every time the dealer shuffles for a new hand, it rotates clockwise. The button is in an advantageous position, as he acts last in a betting round.
CHECK-RAISE
A check-raise is a term that is used when a player checks on the first opportunity to bet and later raises any subsequent bet in the same betting round.
COLD CALL
A cold call refers to the call of two or more bets on your turn. When a pot has been bet and raised before it gets to you, and then you call, you’re said to be cold calling.
CONNECTOR
It refers to sequential pocket cards. For instance, A 5 of clubs and 6 of hearts would be connectors.
CUT-OFF
It refers to the position to the immediate right of the button.
DEALER
Dealer is the player who shuffles the deck and deals the cards.
DEALER BUTTON
This refers to a plastic disk button that indicates the dealer. It is passed clockwise after every hand.
Flop
Refers to the first three community cards dealt out after the first round of betting is complete.
Flush
Flush refers to a poker hand that consists of five cards of the same suit.
Fold
The fold is a term used to give up by placing your cards face down on the table, losing whatever you have bet so far.
Four of a Kind
Refers to a hand containing all four cards of the same rank.
